What is Pull for Pride?
“Pull for Pride” is an unconventional spin on active fundraising — a deadlifting event designed to raise money and build awareness for New York City’s homeless LGBTQ youth. All profits will benefit the Ali Forney Center: “The Mission of the Ali Forney Center is to help homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning youth be safe and become independent as they move from adolescence to adulthood.”
Co-hosted by Murder of Crows Barbell Club and Women’s Strength Coalition, “Pull for Pride NYC” is one arm of a four-part, nationwide fundraising series, taking place in NYC, DC, San Francisco, and Minneapolis throughout the month of June. On June 10th, participants will gather with a “test of strength” approach — testing each lifter’s muscular strength and mental fortitude as much as proving the strength of an entire community.
The Day of the Event
Doors will open to spectators at 3pm! Come meet the lifters, and grab some ice cream, and introduce yourself to one another. There will be a $10 suggested donation at the door, but pay what you can. We want this to be accessible to everyone.
After opening introductions and a rules briefing, lifting will begin at 4pm. Each lifter will be placed in a flight with those lifting similar amounts of weight, as opposed to being group by gender or weight class. Participants will be given three standard attempts to test their strength in the deadlift!

RSVP on our Facebook event page, and share it with friends!
Pull for Pride is meant to be an inclusive spectating event. Come watch the deadlifting attempts, cheer for our athletes, and enter to win prizes in our raffle!
Support one of our lifters on their CrowdRise page. ALL of the money you donate goes DIRECTLY to the Ali Forney Center! We still have a ways to go before we meet our goal!
Pull for Pride NYC registration is FULL.
You will not be required to wear a singlet, but we do ask you cover your shins and lift in safe footwear! Other than those stipulations, wear whatever you’d like- from a tshirt and sweatpants to a Wonder Woman costume. It’s totally up to you to decide how you wish to express yourself.
This event is open to all people (trans and cis, intersex, agender, non-binary, women, men) and experience levels. There will be no weight classes and flights will not be determined by gender. Competitors will be placed in flights determined by first attempts. The WSC will e-mail all registered competitors two weeks before PFP for estimated first attempts, in order to determine their flight. Lifters will have the opportunity to finalize first attempts on the day of the meet.
