What is Pull for Pride?
“Pull for Pride” is an unconventional spin on active fundraising — a deadlifting event designed to raise money and build awareness for D.C. nonprofit Casa Ruby. From their website:
“Casa Ruby is the only Bilingual Multicultural LGBT Organization providing life saving services and programs to the most vulnerable in the LGBT community. A large number of our clients have incomes of less than $15,000.00 per year.
Our Mission is to create success life stories among Transgender, Gender Queer and Gender Non-conforming Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual people.
Our vision is to create a world where Transgender, Gender Queer, and Gender Non-conforming people pursue their dreams and achieve success in their lives without fear of discrimination, harassment, or violence due to their sexual orientation and or Gender Identity/Gender Expression.”
Our Drop Inn-Community Center is the only Bilingual Multicultural LGBT safe space in Washington, DC open 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday from 12-8pm.Our goal is to support the most vulnerable in our LGBT community when need it most. Staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services to more than 150 clients per week which include but are not limited to:

Co-hosted by Balance Gym and Women’s Strength Coalition, “Pull for Pride DC” is one arm of a four-part, nationwide fundraising series, taking place in NYC, DC, San Francisco, and Minneapolis throughout the month of June. On June 10th, participants will gather with a “test of strength” approach — testing each lifter’s muscular strength and mental fortitude as much as proving the strength of an entire community.
This event is open to EVERYONE!
Coffee & treats for the lifters, plus a moon bounce slip and slide on the roof afterward! BYOB for this awesome pride party after you cool down from lifting. Prizes from Equal Exchange, Doughnuts and Deadlifts, and Balance Gym!
Want to Watch?
RSVP on our Facebook event page, and share it with friends!
Pull for Pride is meant to be an inclusive spectating event. Come watch the deadlifting attempts, cheer for our athletes, and have fun on the roof after!
Support one of our lifters on their CrowdRise page. ALL of the money you donate goes DIRECTLY to Casa Ruby! We still have a ways to go before we meet our goal!
You will not be required to wear a singlet, but we do ask you cover your shins and lift in safe footwear! Other than those stipulations, wear whatever you’d like- from a tshirt and sweatpants to a Wonder Woman costume. It’s totally up to you to decide how you wish to express yourself.
This event is open to all people (trans and cis, intersex, agender, non-binary, women, men) and experience levels. There will be no weight classes and flights will not be determined by gender. Competitors will be placed in flights determined by first attempts. The WSC will e-mail all registered competitors two weeks before PFP for estimated first attempts, in order to determine their flight. Lifters will have the opportunity to finalize first attempts on the day of the meet.
