What is Pull for Pride?
“Pull for Pride” is an unconventional spin on active fundraising — a deadlifting event designed to raise money and build awareness for San Francisco nonprofit Queer LifeSpace; a “counseling agency that seeks to bring sustainable mental health and substance abuse services to the LGBTQQI community.”
Co-hosted by Open Gym San Francisco and Women’s Strength Coalition, “Pull for Pride San Francisco” is one arm of a four-part, nationwide fundraising series, taking place in NYC, DC, San Francisco, and Minneapolis throughout the month of June. On June 24th, participants will gather with a “test of strength” approach — testing each lifter’s muscular strength and mental fortitude as much as proving the strength of an entire community.
The Day of the Event
After opening introductions and a rules briefing, lifting will begin at 1:30pm. Each lifter will be placed in a flight with those lifting similar amounts of weight, as opposed to being group by gender or weight class. Participants will be given three standard attempts!
You will not be required to wear a singlet, but we do ask you cover your shins and lift in safe footwear! Other than those stipulations, wear whatever you’d like- from a tshirt and sweatpants to a Wonder Woman costume. It’s totally up to you to decide how you wish to express yourself.
